Health Matters on the Menu Bar gives access to such diverse information as normal temperature and respiration rate, lab. results and testing protocols, as well as a special section just for puppies.
Genetics is simply explained in the Health Matters section, together with charts which graphically display modes of inheritance.
Hereditary diseases such as PLE and PLN give cause for concern, but the details on the Key Facts and other pages will provide valuable information about these syndromes.
The pANCA research project is shown from inception to the findings shown in the Final Report.
A summary of these web pages, in the form of our Health Handbook can be printed in its entirety, or by section, or page, from the Publications menu.
Wheaten Health Initiative is a UK based organisation, which was formed in 2003 as an autonomous health group working independently from any other organisation or club. Our sole aim is caring for the health and well being of the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier. With the involvement of worldwide ancestry within the breed, we consider that there should be easy access to all health developments.
Information and education are our principal objectives to keep breeders, owners and the veterinary professionals up to date with the latest research and testing procedures. View further details on the About Us page.
With this in mind our Mission statement is:
‘To provide a platform for the reception and transmission of information about the health and well being of the
Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier'Our Logo is designed to demonstrate the fact that the health of this beautiful breed is, literally, in the hands of us all, owners and breeders alike, and to depict our vision of global co-operation.
The onus is on all Wheaten Terrier owners and breeders to build up knowledge of the ancestry of their dogs and to understand the health issues and testing protocols as they are developed.
In owning a Wheaten, you take on not just a dog, but a shared responsibility for the future of the breed."Their health really is in the hands of all of us"
